Celebrating Birthday Of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.
Today is a very important day for Muslims all over the world.
A big celebration march is undergoing in Malaysia where all Muslims in the country are marching in peace and happiness. According to the television reports, almost 100,000 people are out on the streets to get involved in this years celebration which is declared a public holiday in Malaysia.
One of the elders in Singapore I spoke to told me it, during the 1960s, a big riot broke out when celebration march was taking place. Due to the outbreak of riots and conflicts, Singapore Muslims no longer conduct celebration march to celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.
Celebration Of Muhammad’s Birthday sparked violence in Singapore in the 1960’s
21 July During a Malay procession that marked Muhammad’s birthday on 21 July 1964, a total of 36 people were killed and another 556 injured in the violent riot. About 3,000 people were arrested. The riots are also known as the Prophet Muhammad Birthday Riots, 1964 Racial Riots, and 1964 Sino-Malay Riots. At that time, Singapore was a state in the Federation of Malaysia.
